Parenting Tips to Help You Raise Happy Children

As a parent, our natural instinct is to protect and nurture our children for a prosperous future. This includes giving them opportunities, like signing them up for music classes, encouraging school revision or getting them to participate in a sport! However, as noble as these intentions are, it is important to make sure we do not bombard children with too much at the same time. Childhood development is a crucial element that heavily influences multiple factors such as personality and coping strategies. Overbooking a child can lead to increased stress and anxiety with feelings of insecurity and self-doubt.

To help your child stay both physically and emotionally happy and healthy, here are five tips you can use.

1. Play - playing with your child is fundamental because it helps build social skills, self-esteem and develops a stronger bond between you and your kid. Take aside 30 minutes a day and get a board game or Uno cards!

2. Independence - allow your child to do things by themselves. Try not to spoon-feed! Mistakes are also a great way of learning. Let your child experience things firsthand so they understand they develop some self-reliance. If they make a mistake, guide them in the right direction.

3. Alone time - for the parents! It is also important that parents stay healthy and stress-free. Children are a blessing, but they take up a lot of time and energy. It's recommended to take some personal time off so that you can be more active and alert for your child. Even if it's just for 15 minutes, take a nice long bath, watch a movie, or even take a walk outside to help ease your nerves. A key to a happy child is a happy parent!
