The Mediterranean Diet has taken the market by storm. It could be called the new healthy way of living. Eating a Mediterranean diet or other healthy dietary patterns comprising of fruit, vegetables, legumes and nuts can prevent the onset of depression, a new study from Spain revealed.
"We wanted to understand what role nutrition plays in mental health, as we believe certain dietary patterns could protect our minds," University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria lead researcher Almudena Sanchez-Villegas explained, notes Sundaily.
"These diets are all associated with physical health benefits and now we find that they could have a positive effect on our mental health."
Depression is a common but serious illness if not paid attention. It interferes with daily life and causes pain for both you and those who care about you.
The Spain study of 15,093 people suggests depression could be linked with certain nutrient deficits.
