Transforming Emotional Pain - An Emotion-Focused Approach

Date: 9 Dec 2023

This seminar starts with theory of emotion and the principals of emotion change from the Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) approach. There would be an experiential component where participants are guided to access their emotions through “focusing”.

This is followed by how painful emotion can be transformed by “chairwork”. This is done via a video presentation of an actual theory session. The key principles of chairwork would be covered.

A short break will follow to allow for reflections and networking.

The second segment of the seminar is an interactive session with Sharon Lu, Clinical Psychologist at Institute of Mental Health. The topic is around the workbook that she has co-authored – Transforming Emotional Pain: An Emotion Focused Workbook. We will cover how this workbook could be adopted by clinicians.

There will be a small group of EFT practitioners sharing their personal journeys of learning EFT; participants can understand what was challenging or rewarding, how EFT differs from other modalities and glean basic EFT takeaways of how to access and work with emotions in session.

This seminar is tailored for mental health professionals from various training backgrounds who are curious about Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) or wish to incorporate elements of EFT into their practice.
