Giving While You Live To Heal

Published on February 24, 2022

“Give While You Live” is the title of a post written by John Blase for Daily Bread.

It’s a psychotherapeutic slogan for me. It promotes one’s overall mental health and well being.

Giving can boost both mental and physical health. Research shows that those who give live longer and have happier lives.

The giving that you do delivers a host of benefits to both body and brain. So whether you give your time or money, experts observe the following benefits:

  • Lower blood pressure.
  • Lower stress levels.
  • Less anxiety and depression.
  • Increased self-esteem.

Bill Gates, now in his mid-60s, is many-time the richest man in the world. He has been spending the last remaining years of his life giving away billions for worthy causes.

He gives to a variety of global projects to benefit humanity, such as in the field of medicine, health care systems, fighting pandemics, poverty, and hunger.

Bill believes strongly in giving while living. He sees little reasons to stockpile all his wealth to leave to his children. He knows no excuses to delay making a difference to humanity by using the money he accumulated.

Though our work or station in life is very much different from Bill Gates, we all can give of ourselves in our own loving, compassionate ways.

Your giving can be through your time. Through your actions. Through your talents and gifts. Or, through your unique resources and networks that would leave a better world.

No matter how we give of ourselves, we’re to do so with a loving, selfless spirit.

Hear Pablo Picasso saying, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”

And as the Apostle John put it, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Do give while you live so you can heal and be saved.
