In a study done in 1962 by Victor and Mildred Goertzel on over 400 famous individuals, it was found that a large majority of them had faced some sort of serious issues growing up. There seemed to be some relation between overcoming these problems and success. These successful individuals had build that some resilience from overcoming adversity.
That is not to say that we should subject people to problems on purpose just to build up resilience in them. Some of these problems should never be faced by anyone. On the other hand, it is not the case that a perfect environment in which one faces no issues whatsoever is the optimal situation.
Resilient individuals actively sought for a better quality of life. They leapt onto any opportunities that came their way, and played to their strengths to conquer any hurdles. But most importantly, they never gave up when faced with adversity.
Training resilience takes place in a few simple steps. Firstly, step out of your comfort zone and seek challenges. Next, never let your determination be shaken by anyone or anything. Follow this up with constant progress and seek help whenever you need, and you're well on your way to becoming a more resilient person.
Training resilience is never an easy task, but you'll soon find that taking that first step might just be the toughest part about it.
