3 Mantras to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Posted on July 12, 2017

Most of us have been in this situation: We’re scrolling through Facebook and start comparing ourselves to other people’s seemingly better lives. We start telling ourselves that we are less successful than others. If we listen to this voice repeatedly, it makes us feel unworthy. Will Aylward suggests three ways to deal with these thoughts.

1) Compare who you are today with the person that you were in the past. We often overlook our own achievements and personal growth while focusing on the lives of others. When we compare ourselves based on the success of others, we overlook what we have achieved.

2) Knowing that people you compare yourself to are not perfect. Social media often only showcases the best moments of a person’s life.

3) Loving and accepting yourself in the present, including the negative thoughts that may surface. Recognise them as thoughts that show us where we need to improve in our life. Learn to accept yourself for who you are, imperfections and all.
