Millennials are people born between 1988 and 1994 and they are viewed to be the most narcissistic generation ever, by both their parents and grandparents. Even though millennials and the older generations agree that millennials are most narcissistic, there is a disagreement in the extent of narcissism.
People in the study do not agree that they are proud, overly self-obsessed and vain. The only people that actually found the label acceptable were people who are actually narcissistic, which constitute only a small handful of the population.
Instead, millennials prefer to think of themselves as “individualistic”. It is critical to also note that this research does not mean that every single millennial is narcissistic. It simply means that on the whole, people of this generation probably are more narcissistic than their past generations.
Moreover, it is worthy to note that this is the first generation where millennials are constantly exposed to the message that they are narcissistic and it will be interesting to examine the effects of the label on their mental health and attitudes.
