This Is The Number 1 Cause of Ill Health Worldwide

Posted on April 24, 2017

According to new research, depression is the leading cause of disability and ill health worldwide. It has been found that there has been a steady increase of people who suffer from depression and there are now over 300 million living in depression around the world.

It is critical to note that almost half of these people do not get any treatment or counselling and two main reasons are the stigma that accompanies people with mental conditions as well as the lack of support and resources for people with mental health issues.

The symptoms of depression usually include the following, which will last for two weeks or more:
1. Diminished interest to do activities that used to be enjoyable
2. Uncontrollable and persistent sadness
3. Problems with daily activities

With more people struggling with depression, it is critical for us to understand depression and its available treatments. However, what is most important would be the scale-up of mental health services and resources that are accessible and affordable for everyone, including the remote populations in the world. Everyone deserves treatment and the chance to live a happier and fulfilling life!
