Although some people have assumed that woman are better at multitasking compared to men, it simply is not true. Professor Timo Mäntylä, who researches about any gender differences in the ability to multitask, says that men are actually better! How much? Well, that actually depends on the woman's menstrual cycle.

When a woman's menstrual cycle is at menstruation, her spatial skills have a higher capacity rather than at the ovulation period where oestrogen levels increase. Studies have shown that women do not perform as well at multitasking as men in general, but their performance decreases even more during the menstruation time period.

However, Professor Mäntylä warns that multitasking is nothing to be proud of. The brain performs best and makes less error when it focuses on one thing at a time. In addition, multitasking could cause some of our brain structures to shrink! Researchers found that people who use multiple devices simultaneously have lower gray-matter density that's related to cognitive and emotional control.

Thus, men might perform better than woman at multitasking, but overall the habit should be avoided. Focus on one task at a time for better performance!
