Treating ADHD Differently

Typical ADHD interventions target at reducing hyperactivity which is different from what we want to do for majority of ADHD children.
Their movements need to be facilitated and maintain at a level of alertness for cognitive activities.

A study look at young boys diagnosed with ADHD. They were observed while performing working memory tasks.
The results of the study shows that ADHD children tend to perform better when they are moving around. Moving allows them to maintain alertness.

While children without ADHD, tend to perform worse when they are allowed to move around more.

However, the results is tied in a previous study on excessive movement of hyperactive children is linked to their thinking. When they are not thinking hard, they would not move around that much.
