Strangers sharing intimate autobiographical details. Will you?

How did they manage to willingly share? New research suggests that laughter causes one to disclose more about themselves.

Participants were given a video clip to influence their mood. The comedy clip showed greater laughter which is confirmed by independent judges.

Then, participants were asked to write five pieces of personal information they would be prepared to share with one of their companions. The results showed that after watching the comedy clip, their intimacy level was significantly raised.

Laughter is a social lubricant, it amplifies and speeds intimacy and create conditions for durable social bonds. This is ideal for building friendship bonds or relationships with partner.
