Date: 17 Jan 2019 - 21 Feb 2019

Hong Kong

This course is intended to help clinical psychologists, social workers, counselors to gain a fundamental understanding on theories that address clients typically classified as “borderline personality disorder”. These theories include attachment theory and object relations which are useful in helping us to understand the developmental aspects of how the sense of self has been severely “deformed” with its implications for subsequent emotional and behavioural disregulation.

Furthermore, the practical skills of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy as well as the use of Narrative therapy will also be discussed and role played. Case supervision will be made available.

Course Objectives :

1. To gain a fundamental understanding of:

-the development of the sense of self through attachment theory and object relations

- the features of clients with severe interpersonal boundaries and difficulties they encounter

- the therapeutic Skills: an amalgamation of Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy

2. To unpack the traditional consideration of treatment resistance through the lens of Narrative Therapy

3. To explore what is the most appropriate and helpful therapeutic stance to such clientele
