For some years there has been a debate about the legitimacy of sex addiction as a diagnosis, despite a growing body of evidence. Recently ‘compulsive sexual behaviour’ has been endorsed by the World Health Organisation as a mental health disorder. What is this condition? How does it develop? Can it be treated?

Dr Nia Pryde is a Clinical, Counselling & Health Psychologist (BPS chart, HCPC reg, HKPS reg), a Member of the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors, and a Senior Member of the BPS Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy. She is a Sexual & Relationship Psychotherapist and Supervisor (UKCP reg, COSRT accred), Sex Addiction Therapist & Supervisor (ATSAC), and a Family Mediator (HKIAC, HKMAAL accred) and Collaborative Practitioner. She is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Psychological Society and Hon Past President of the Psychotherapy Society of Hong Kong. She has held a senior clinical post in the British National Health Service, a full-time faculty position at the University of Hong Kong, and is currently in independent practice in Hong Kong. Dr Pryde is a Certified Emotion-Focused Therapy Training Facilitator (Individual & Couple), Supervisor and Trainer (isEFT).
