The Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) is pleased to partner the Department of Social Work, National University of Singapore in organising and welcoming the International Network of Social Work in Health and Mental Health to Singapore for the 8th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health (ICSW 2016).
For us in Singapore, the conference could not come at a more opportune time than now. Singapore is facing an ageing population. Growing affluence has resulted in a widening income gap and the inevitable problems that come with a higher cost of living.
Due to the geographical size of our country, we are fortunate to be able to adopt a “Whole of Government” approach to effectively address health and mental health issues embedded in all aspects of social work. We hope that the conference will enable us to share our social infrastructure and practical experiences and at the same time, learn from social workers in Asia and other parts of the world on how we can do better for the benefit of our clients.
The structure of the conference programme has seen many versions in an attempt to be as inclusive as possible in terms of subject areas. This includes the interests of many professionals engaged in health and mental health and more significantly, the inclusion of new trends in policies and services where health and mental health are no longer perceived as solely the domain of the health sector.
