Dynamics Therapy Centre for Kids is excited to bring DIR Floortime® 101 Introductory for parents, teachers, and professionals. The Floortime® Approach is an approach to help children communicate better with their environment. ICDL (www.icdl.com) is the leading institute training this approach.

Floortime® was developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan to help families support their child’s development. Floortime® meets children where they are and builds upon their strengths and abilities through interacting and creating warm relationships.

Why Floortime® Approach?

Learning Objectives

Overview of the DIR® Model and DIRFloortime® Principles (DIR 101)

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

1. Identify common features of autism and other challenges of relating and communicating
2. Identify the key features of relationship-based approaches
3. Explore 6 Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDCs) in the DIR® model and potential challenges that children face at each capacity
4. Understand the "I" in DIR® - individual differences and how health, sensory processing, and regulatory challenges can impact a child's development
5. Discuss key principles and basic strategies of Floortime®
6. Understand the role of relationship and family in the DIR® model
7. Understand the essential role of affect as it is related to the D, the I, and the R

DIR101 American Trainers

Crystal Merrill, MSW, LCSW-C, PhDc, is Assistant Director for the DIRFloortime® Training Program. She is a Training Leader and an Expert DIRFloortime® Provider and is currently a PhD candidate in the field of Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health and Developmental Disorders. A Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C), she maintains a private practice in western Maryland, USA.

David G. Nelson, MS, LPC, is the Executive Director of The Community School. Dave is involved in every aspect of the entire program, including teaching and support, curriculum design, and administration. He is a licensed counselor (LPC) who specializes in working with children, adolescents, adults, and their families with a focus on developing the interactive, emotional, and learning capabilities of all individuals.
Dave has an M.S. in Counseling and an M.A. in English Literature from Georgia State University, as well as an M.B.A. from Duke University. He is licensed as a professional counselor in the state of Georgia. He has a DIR expert certificate and is a DIR Training Leader.
