Asia-Pacific Symposium on Motivational Interviewing

Date: 5 Feb 2015 - 6 Feb 2015

Singapore

Motivational Interviewing(MI) is a form of collaborative conversation for strengthening a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. It is a person-centered counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change by paying particular attention to the language of change. Motivational interviewing was first introduced in 1983 by William Miller and Stephen Rollnick. Since then, MI has become woven into day-to-day practice by a wide range of professionals around the world.

MI was introduced to Singapore in 2007 through workshops by Shan You Counselling Centre and James Cook University. Since then over a thousand people have received training and local research exploring the effectiveness of MI in Singapore has commenced. Shan You Counselling Centre is the pioneer to introduce MI into Singapore in 2007 and we are thrilled to present the inaugural Asia-Pacific Symposium on Motivational Interviewing (APSMI).

We are delighted to bring together, researchers, trainers and practitioners from Singapore and around the world to provide interactive presentations and skills building workshops. We are honored to invite Dr Stephen Rollnick, the Co-founder of MI and other esteemed colleagues who apply Motivational Interviewing in the wide range of contexts to help people move toward change. The speakers will deliver insightful and enriching presentations on various aspects of Motivational Interviewing. In addition, on the second day, there will be opportunities for hands-on through workshop sessions.
