Reducing Emotional Stress by Hydrotherapy

Stress is the body's reaction to situations that seem dangerous or difficult. Stress causes the body to produce adrenaline hormones that function to defend themselves. Stress is a part of human life. Mild stress can stimulate and give a sense of more thinking and trying faster and harder so it can answer the challenges of everyday life. Mild stress can stimulate and provide a more passionate sense of life that is usually boring and routine. Conversely, too much stress and sustained stress will be harmful to health if left untreated. If stress is ongoing it will lead to frustration resulting in negative energy. Negative energy will radiate throughout the body and affect the entire psychophysical system. Finally, severe stress will lead to depression that paralyzes the physical and mental. Stress for too long can cause headaches, brain tissue damage, high blood pressure, heart disease, weakening of bones, general immune deficiency, muscle tension, menstrual disorders, miscarriage, depression, anger, fear and nervousness. If the immune system is allowed to get worse due to stress, it can lead to other serious medical conditions.  Therefore, it takes a variety of ways to eliminate the stress both in a preventive and curative. One way that healing that affect the psychological and physical health to relieve stress is through hydrotherapy.

Water is a compound that is flexible and can be negative or positive. Hence, hydrotherapy can be used as a physical and psychological healing.  Stress can be removed with water therapy. One way of therapy by using water is by washing some body parts in several sequences, as follows:

  1. Washing both hands while praying (while making positive wish)
  2.  Gargling repeated three times
  3. Inhaling water into the nose by taking a right hand full of water and put water into the nose by means of a breath to inhale the water that goes into most tip of the nose, then sprayed by means of punch nose with his left hand. do it three times
  4. Washing face three times
  5. Washing both hands up to the elbows starting from the right and left hand constantly repeated three times
  6. Wiping the head with both palms that had been moistened with water, then run both hands from the front of the head to the back nape and then return again to the front of the head
  7. Rubbing both ears by inserting a finger into the ear, then the thumb rubbing both ears
  8. Washing the feet until both ankles starting from the right and left foot constantly repeated three times.

All parts do three times and starting from the right part of the body.  This session performed 5 times a day as explained before: early morning, mid-afternoon, right afternoons, dusk time, and night.  If this therapy is done properly, then someone will feel the freshness psychologically and physically. The stress will disappear and the physical becomes refreshed. Water used for terapi ini, has some criteria: the water does not get dirty, clean, water temperature of 46° C, no odor, clear, no ex-used water, the color of water is not changed, and not less than 2 kulah (minimum 216 liters) in a water bath. The order of washing the body by water actually has been done by people who are Muslim as wudlu (the word from Arabic language, means washing) before performing the prayer. However, this washing sequence has also been studied in an International journal of psychological and behavioral sciences authored by Regina Zahara.  And this therapy has also been tested to two non-Muslims from Korea in year 2016. Water has many benefits including as a therapy. With water, stress can also be lost. Stressed individuals can use this method to relieve stress. It is better and clearer if the therapy is done with screening guidance.
